April 2013 Classes

LACE SKIRT - April 6 - 10:30am -2:00pm - Materials Needed:  The pattern calls for two lace weight yarns held together, I used one strand of Sea Silk and it took two skeins for my size, 3 skeins for larger sizes. Class Fee - $65.00 if materials not purchased at Yarn Heaven.  This was the most fun pattern I have knitted in a while.  The lace pattern is a very easy repeat, you can make it longer or shorter by adding or eliminating rows.  I am excited to start my second one.  The picture shows the skirt without the lining, thanks to Joan, the lining will be put in this weekend and I have a beautiful skirt to wear for Easter.   Wouldn't this make an awesome mother's day gift?



Points and Panels Lace Skirt

YH UNIVERSITY  CLASS - April 13 - 10:30am - 2:00pm - In this class we are going to go over binding off, picking up stitches, picking up drop stitches and substituting yarn for a project.  Please bring 2 swatches to class using flat worsted weight yarn and needles appropriate for yarn and bring your imagination! 


MY Skirt - April 20 - 10:30am -2:00pm- Materials Needed:  A MY Skirt Kit or several yarns with a cotton blend equal to approximately 1000-1500 yards and needles to gauge.  Measuring tape is needed, because we are going to take hip and waist measurements.  Class Fee:  $65.00 if materials not purchased at Yarn Heaven.  What an absolute fun project and perfect for a nice, comfortable, sassy little summer skirt!  Every row will give your skirt a different look and there will be no two skirts that look alike.  I love this project and need to get my third one finished!  My summer wardrobe is almost complete!!

May 2013 Classes

LET'S MAKE OUR OWN YARN - May 4 - 10:30am to 12:00pm -  Materials Needed - two to three different kinds of yarn Class Fee - $50.00 if materials not purchased at Yarn Heaven.  Have a little of this, a little of that, think they won't go together, come on in and take this class to get great ideas how to make a whole new yarn out of other yarns. 


LEARN TO KNIT CONTINENTAL STYLE - May 11 - 10:30am to 12:pm - Materials Needed:  Worsted weight flat yarn and needles appropriate to yarn.  This is the European way of knitting, you hold the yarn in your left hand.  They say it is a faster method, our hands never leave the needles.  You must know how to knit to take this class.  No Charge for this class, it is normally a $30.00 class. 


ENTRELAC SCARF - May 18 - 10:30am to 2:00pm - Materials Needed:  Approximately 450 yards of yarn, needles appropriate for yarn.  Class Fee:  $65.00 if materials not purchased at Yarn Heaven.  Love, love, love this method of knitting.  The look is so beautiful, it is not done block by block but all in one piece.  You will learn many new skills in this class.

June 2013 Classes

CROCHETED AND KNITTED BOWLS - June 1- 10:30am to 2:00pm - Materials Needed - Approximately 200 yards of a worsted weight, knitting needles or crochet hook 2 sizes smaller that recommended for yarn.  Class Fee - $45.00 if materials not purchased at Yarn Heaven.  We all know that crochet or knit isn't just for wearing, come let's see how we can make useful items for our home.






RINGLET TANK WITH CAP SLEEVES - June 8 & 22 - 10:30am - 1:00pm - Materials Needed:  738yds- 1100 yds for the largest size.  This tank goes from size 31 1/4" bust to 52 1/2" bust.

Ringlet Tank

Class Fee - $65.00 if materials not purchased at Yarn Heaven.  I am using Setanova for the shop sample.  This is a wonderful silk/cotton blend that is just perfect for our hot Texas summers. The stitch gauge is 22 stitches over 4" on a US 5.  The detail on the front makes the tank look classy and comfortable.  The cap sleeves are shaped with short rows and are an extension of the front and back.



VORTEX SHAWL - June 22 - 10:30am to 12:00pm - Materials Needed:  Approximately 900 yards of a sock weight yarn.  Class Fee: $45.00 if materials not purchased at Yarn Heaven


Vortex Shawl

What a joy this shawl was to make and another FAST project, I have to admit I dreaded the add on border, only to find that it was not only very easy, but much faster than I thought it was going to be.  The sample was made from Universal Yarns Poems Sock.   1 and 1/2 skeins. 



July 2013 Classes

TWO AT A TIME SOCKS - July 13 & 20 - 10:30am to 2:00pm - Materials Needed:  Knitting More Circles around Socks,  two circular needles both the same size, one 16" and one 24", sock yarn.  Class Fee:  $65.00 if materials not bought at Yarn Heaven.  In July, 13 years ago I made my first pair of socks and I have never looked back.  Come find out why there is such a love of sock knitting, no second sock syndrome here, when you are done, you are done with the pair!

KNIT OR CROCHET A CHRISTMAS TREE SKIRT
July 27 -10:30am to 12:00pm - Materials Needed - approx 400 yards worsted weight yarn

What a truly wonderful Chrismas gift that lasts forever!  Over 36 years ago I made one for my best friend and her parents and every year whether they want to not, they think of me at Christmas time if no other time, thanks to their Christmas Tree skirt.

 

Beginning Knitting or Crochet Classes

Beginning Knitting or Crocheting classes consist of four hours of class time.  You come one day for 2 hours and then come back the next week one day for 2 hours.  All beginner classes are set up on a one to one private basis.  Yes, you may also sign up with a friend or family member, we just do not have beginning "group" classes, as we have found in our experience that when students have one on one time, they seem to learn better than in a group setting. 

Beginning classes are $65.00 for four hours.  They are set up for a time that is convenient for both the student and the teacher.  We do not do beginner classes on Saturdays or in the evenings.  When you are ready to take your class we ask that you come in one week in advance and prepay your class and we can then block out your class time.

Materials Needed:  We suggest purchasing your supplies at Yarn Heaven, and you will need, 24" US Size 8 or 9 needle, one skein of light, solid colored worsted weight yarn and we always suggest a good reference book.

January 2013 Classes

Yarn Heaven University Class - January 12 - 10:30am to 12pm -  Class Fee - $0
This is a technique class.  In this class we will learn about substituting yarn, figuring the correct amount of yarn needed for a project, doing a correct swatch, how to join yarn.  This class can hold both knitters and crocheters.  Please bring a swatch to class, 30 stitches and 4", leave your swatch on your needle.  We suggest using a worsted weight flat yarn.

CAST ON/BIND OFF - January 19 - Saturday 10:30am to 1:00pm -  Class Fee - $0 if materials purchased at Yarn Heaven, if materials not purchased at Yarn Heaven $20.00
Who knew there were so many different cast on and bind offs.  My eyes sure have been opened and it sure is fun using the different types, please bring 4 swatches to class, use stitch holders to make sure all the stitches can be slipped back on a needle to knit with.  You will need worsted weight yarn to play with the different ways to cast on.  This is going to be a fun, informative class.

HENLEY T-SHIRT - January 26 - Saturday 10:30 -2:00pm -  Class Fee - $0 if materials purchased at Yarn Heaven, if materials not purchased at Yarn Heaven  $40.00
What a fun shirt to knit, and so many yarns to choose from. This t-shirt is knit from the top down, great way to check the fit and all the hard part is at the beginning.  We are looking at a light worsted cotton or cotton blend and needles to gauge.

February 2013 Classes

HEART SHAPED DISH CLOTH - February 2 - Saturday 10:30am - 1:00pm - Class Fee - $0 if materials purchased at Yarn Heaven, if materials not purchased at Yarn Heaven - $25.00
Materials Needed - Wortsted weight yarn (we used cotton) US size 8/9 needle.
In this class learn you will learn basic shaping by increasing and decreasing stitches to produce the shape of a heart.

CABLED SQUARES KNIT OR CROCHET! - February 9 - 10:30am - 2:00pm -   Class Fee - $0 if materials purchased at Yarn Heaven, if materials not purchased at Yarn Heaven - $25.00
This class will be held every other month.  We will pick a square to work on and doing the cables starting with simple and building up to some intricate ones, we will show you how to put them together to make a great throw!  Cables are truly fun to make and makes the knitting go fast!
Materials Needed - One Skein of Worsted Weight Yarn and needles/crochet to gauge

ENTRELAC - THE METHOD - February 16 - 10:30am to 2:30pm -  Class Fee - $0 if materials purchased at Yarn Heaven, if materials not purchased at Yarn Heaven - $40.00.
We are going to teach this scarf a different way this time, we will have you using two different colors of yarn, changing colors at the end of every entrelac row.  When completed Entrelac looks like a woven fabric.  It is fun to use a self striping yarn or a solid, the look is unique either way!
Materials Needed - Your preference in the size of the yarn, but two contrasting colors and needles to gauge of yarn

SPRING LACE SCARF - February 23 - 10:30am to 1:00pm -  Class Fee - $0 if materials purchased at Yarn Heaven, if materials not purchased at Yarn Heaven - $30.00
For this class, we are recommending the beautiful Sea Silk Yarn or the gorgeous Rhapsody Glitter Light, both are so soft and so beautiful knitted.  If you have never done lace this class is a great one for getting your feet wet. 
Materials Needed - We suggest one skein of Sea Silk or Rhapsody Glitter Light and Size US 6/7 needles.
